Structural Engineer I: Designer

General Characteristics

This is the entry level for professional work.  Performs assignments that are designed to develop and improve professional work knowledge and abilities.  A strong technical education, professional demeanor, and desire to learn is essential to this position.

There are no managerial responsibilities at this level and employees of this level primarily interact with other staff members. Depending on experience level, managerial responsibilities at this level involves assigning tasks to and coordinates with technicians or administrative staff.

Participation and membership in professional organizations and/or community service organizations is encouraged.

Structural Engineer I: Designer

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and/or Master’s in structural engineering.
  • 0-4 years of experience.

 

Licenses and Certifications

Passed or expected to pass the F.E. exam.

 

Responsibilities

The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing.  Each person is expected to help in whatever duties are required to deliver quality.

Under close supervision performs a variety of engineering tasks, including:

  • Collects data and gather information or documents.
  • Research and become familiar with building and material code requirements.
  • Become knowledgeable of structural design software and CAD programs (AutoCAD & Revit).
  • Basic design tasks.
  • Structural analysis and designs for structural steel, cold formed steel, reinforced masonry, wood, reinforced concrete, other material and structurers.
  • Assists in the development of models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Assists in production reports and/or calculations.
  • Reviews draft designs for compliance with building and material code requirements.
  • Design and/or detail portions of a project.
  • Assists in field investigations and construction site visits.
  • Assisting with construction administrative tasks.

Structural Technical Drafter and Modeler

General Characteristics and Responsibilities

In this role as a Technical Drafter and Modeler, you will work closely with the structural engineering team. Project tasks will include developing structural 2D building plans and information models (BIMs) (3D models), annotating plans, sections, and details. Project types include various Commercial, Industrial, Educational, Healthcare, Hospitality, Institutional, Multi-family, Mixed-Used, Public Safety, Emergency Management, Government, Correctional, Cold Formed Steel Specialty Engineering and themed construction projects. Our projects range vastly in scale, detail, and complexity, and this position requires being able to work on multiple projects at a time with engineers and drafters/modelers.

Strong computer skills, professional demeanor, and desire to learn are essential to this position.

Qualifications

  • No experience necessary.
  • Autodesk AutoCAD & Revit course experience.
  • Technical Certificate in Computer Aided Drafting or Drafting Technology preferred.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree a plus.
